Early November marked a milestone for the USAID Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) program: the first-ever volunteer assignment in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

ACDI/VOCA, which implements F2F in the DRC, fielded an agricultural expert, Gerald “Jerry” Skiles from Oregon, to volunteer with rice producer groups in the Kingabwa neighborhood of Kinshasa on improved farm management.

This effort was part of F2F’s larger efforts to connect farmers, cooperatives and associations, and small and medium-sized businesses in developing countries to volunteer experts from the United States in order to fight hunger and poverty.
