Under the Emergency Response in Colombia (ERIC) Program, ACDI/VOCA addresses the most pressing needs of the communities affected by the Venezuelan migration crisis. We are mobilizing a response to the need for potable water and improved environmental health and hygiene. We are also introducing resilience activities related to agriculture and food security. ERIC provides immediate alleviation and will reduce the vulnerability of families affected by the Venezuelan migration crisis.
Project Objectives
- WASH: Reduce morbidity and mortality of Venezuelan migrants, Colombian returnees, and the host community associated with consumption of contaminated water and precarious hygiene conditions
- Agriculture and Food Security: Improve availability and sustainable production of food for Venezuelan migrants, Colombian returnees, and the host community
Project Activities and Approaches
- ERIC interventions focusing on 530 households in La Guajira, Colombia, and support approximately 3,710 Colombians
- Construct a solar-powered water supply system and provide water filters to improve water supply in La Esperanza settlement
- Distribute hand-washing kits and hygiene vouchers and provide training on proper hygiene and waste management
- Implement the creation of 150 household gardens with livestock modules on raising broiler chickens
Anticipated Project Results
- Reach an estimated 6,492 beneficiaries
- Improve the accessibility and availability of clean and drinking water to be able to safely attend to basic needs and promote best hygiene practices
