This report summarizes the key findings and take-aways from a two-day workshop with informal, artisan “jua kali” fabricators on the portable shallow bed batch dryer. It covers the construction of a demonstration dryer, including deviations from the original design, the re-engineering process employed by artisans and its implications, and details of potential fabrication issues. This report also includes a debrief from a demonstration day with three formal fabricators and explores the selection of a formal fabricator including respective pricing estimates. As part of the go-to-market commercialization strategy under design for the dryer, AflaSTOP is investigating both informal and formal routes for manufacturing.
