ACDI/VOCA’s Guenette and Mbure Highlighted in VEGA Newsletter

In its June 2007 newsletter, Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance (VEGA) highlighted the visit to South Sudan of ACDI/VOCA Technical Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa Paul Guenette and Associate Director for Sub-Saharan Africa Gitau Mbure to review and promote market-oriented agricultural development.

While visiting the Agricultural Markets and Enterprise Development Project, Guenette and Mbure led a workshop organized by VEGA and the government of South Sudan Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Participants from the government, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, NGOs, cooperatives and farmer groups discussed the opportunities and the challenges of market-oriented agricultural development.

In addition, Guenette and Mbure traveled with the VEGA Senior Field Operations Manager Peter Lominit to Wau to meet with representatives from the Directorate of Cooperatives for the Bahr el Ghazal. They discussed ways revitalize the cooperative movement within that region.
